Couples Therapy & Relationship Counselling
Something has shifted between you. Something stopped working — or perhaps it never actually started. Whether it happened suddenly or so gradually you can’t say when.
Trust has been broken. A betrayal. Secrets. Or something less dramatic but just as painful — a slow withdrawal, a growing distance, the sense that you’re going through the motions of a relationship that has lost its life. Arguments, contempt, accusations, stonewalling. Or maybe you’ve stopped arguing altogether, and that feels even worse.
Whatever brought you here, you need someone who can hold the room when it gets difficult. Someone who actually understands what’s going on between you — and who can help you find clarity, not sit back and watch you go in circles.
Themes and issues I typically work with:
I work with couples at every stage — in acute crisis and in the kind of trouble that has been wearing away quietly for years.
Trust and betrayal. Rebuilding after an affair, broken promises, or the discovery that something fundamental was hidden.
Communication and conflict. Recurring arguments that never resolve. Withdrawal, stonewalling, or the feeling that you simply cannot reach each other.
Intimacy and desire. Something has gone quiet between you — emotionally, physically, or both. Struggles with vulnerability, closeness, and what intimacy actually means to each of you.
Growing apart. You want different things now — or maybe you always did. The sense that who you each are has changed, but the relationship hasn’t kept up.
Life transitions. The pressure that parenthood, career change, relocation, loss, or retirement places on a partnership.
Separation and divorce. The question of whether to stay or leave — and how to walk either path with clarity.
I also work with couples in situations that many counsellors miss or don’t specifically address. Partners from different cultural backgrounds who clash over assumptions about love, family, and commitment — often without realising these assumptions exist. Couples who live between countries and speak different languages. Relationships shaped by expat life and relocation. Partnerships where differences in age, upbringing, or worldview create pressures that are hard to name but present every day. These are not unusual complications. They are real forces that shape how two people understand — or fail to understand — each other, sometimes in ways neither partner sees.

How I Work
When I sit with a couple, I’m working with three presences. That is with each of you individually, and the relationship itself. Something that exists between you and is more than either of you alone. Much of what goes wrong in relationships happens in this space between you. Whether these are unspoken rules, the rules you inherit, or the patterns that run beneath what you say and do.
My approach is grounded in existential and relational thinking. I’m curious about meaning — what this relationship asks of you, and the deeper patterns each of you brings from your own history. But couples work demands more than reflection. I work actively — sometimes inviting you to step into each other’s perspective, to enact rather than describe, to try something different right there in the room. I draw on experiential, psychodynamic, and embodied ways of working. Some sessions are exploratory. Others are direct, challenging, confronting. The work moves.
I use a flexible rhythm of joint and individual sessions. In joint sessions, I observe how you relate in real time — the patterns, the silences, the flashpoints. In individual sessions, I meet each of you separately — a space to explore your own experience of this relationship without your partner present. We bring what surfaces back into the shared space.
What This Work Offers
I am not promising a miracle or a harmony. I will not tell you who is right or wrong. What I can offer is a clearer picture of what you’ve actually built together, what drives your difficulty, and what each of you wants and needs. And the possibility of responding differently and of making different choices.
Some couples rebuild. Some part with greater understanding. Some are surprised by what comes up when they face each other for real. The aim is not to fix, and not to make one of you do what the other wants. It is about seeing and feeling what is really happening and from that, choosing what comes next.
